I love Chris Higgins and Michael McDonald. Since I was a teenager, I have. I could not believe that I was able to get two tickets to Chastain Park's performance on Tuesday night. From the opening note at precisely 8 PM (thank you Chris Higgins for not making your audience wait one second past 8), I was transported back to a time when life was all about this self-centered teenager and her friends. Chris Higgins still has "it". And "it" is the ability to sing as if time has stood still for him. He is a remarkable entertainer who comes across as just a regular guy. And yes, while we are all getting AARP membership cards, we still dance with "What Can I Say?", grow melancholy with "Georgia", and celebrate with "Silk Degrees." Chris Higgins is timeless.
Ah...Michael McDonald...That wonderful songsmith who created probably my most favorite album ever with "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"! The man has not changed one iota. He is ageless. His voice is ever the same. No stretching, no straining...still uniquely his own. What a trip last night. Back to the South Carolina beaches in 1977 when all we listened to Boz on our eight track players and shagged to those wonderful two steps of "Takin' it to the streets" and the forever sentimental "What a Fool Believes". While Boz could have recreated only the "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" playlist and I would have thought I had died and gone to heaven, he is so much more. His talent is still amazing. Obvioulsy he loves the Blues, and draws on his time in Macon "hanging out with friends". And yes, he can follow Chris Higgins - and not many entertainers can claim that accolade.
